WONDERFUL APPLICATIONS OF NANO-MATERIALS TO REDUCE POLLUTION LEVELS ON THIS PLANET

    Ever since our ancestors sharpened sticks and shaved flints around the campfire, humans have been tool makers. Today, engineers apply this maker's impulse to the realm of nanotechnology. Nano-engineers understand that bulk materials have defects and imperfections that weaken their overall structure. As we shrink objects to the nano-scale, the presence of defects is greatly reduced thus it makes nano-materials stronger than their large-scale counterparts. One of the most wonderful and interesting initiatives is to turn water into a sort of nano-tech battery to store solar energy. 




    Nano-materials are also chemically more reactive than their macro-scale equivalents. That’s because catalytic chemical reactions occur when molecules meet surfaces in an energetic state with more surface area translates to more reactions. So breaking a bulk catalyst down into billions of nanoparticles provides a vastly greater active surface area. This is not merely a theoretical concept but it has many practical applications and numerous benefits like reducing the pollution emitted by vehicles. Car companies have saved millions of dollars in materials costs by fragmenting large particles of precious metals down to the nano-scale to greatly improve the pollution-cleansing properties of catalytic converters. So, therefore, these nanoparticles can improve the performance and also the cost of catalysts which are used to transform vapors escaping from cars and industries into harmless gasses. That's because catalysts made from nanoparticles have a greater surface area to interact with the reacting chemicals than the catalysts which are made from larger particles.

    Usage of more plastics and burning them is one of the major concerns in the causes of pollution. Industries are dumping their waste in water sources it will cause to make large water pollution. When dumping plastics in soil cause to loss of fertility of the soil, because plastics are non-degradable materials and make soil pollution. These are some of the main reasons for increasing pollution. So, therefore here the application of Nanotechnology-based biodegradable plastic items will play an essential role in protecting our environment and this beautiful planet earth. I think that there is an urgent requirement of implementing nano-technology to sort out the problems of all kinds of air pollution, water, and land pollution. Also, we need to immediately implement this kind of nanotechnology to reduce and minimize levels of pollution.
